Tire Balancing
Tire balancing, also called wheel balancing, entails adding small weights to the wheel rim to account for imbalances in weight distribution as the wheel and tire spin. Ideally, the tire would be of even weight all the way around. Still, the reality is that slight manufacturing abnormalities, even a small amount of wheel damage, or normal daily wear can cause improper balance. As the tire and wheel spin, this sets up a situation of uneven contact. It impacts your ride quality, handling ability, and tire wear. It can also cause suspension damage. We properly balance new tires when we install them. Having us balance them again on the recommended schedule can help you avoid those problems associated with improper balance. We place each wheel and tire on a balancing machine to determine what is needed for proper weighting.
Wheel Alignment
Wheel alignment refers to the relationships between your vehicle and the road and those between the wheels themselves. The major suspension angles are expressed in terms of camber, caster, toe, and thrust. It’s best practice to have us perform a wheel alignment when you get new tires to get them off to a great start. You should also schedule a visit if you notice any other signs of poor alignment. When your car has an alignment problem, the most obvious problem is usually uneven tire wear. The tread is worn more in some areas than others. Left unaddressed, you’ll have to replace your tires sooner than you planned. Other signs include pulling to one side, a steering wheel that won’t return to center or appear crooked, and a high-pitched sound from the tires. When you get a wheel alignment, we put your automobile on our alignment rack and take precise computerized measurements. This tells us what must be adjusted to bring your transportation back within the automaker’s allowable tolerances for optimal performance. Make Randy’s Automotive your personal tire shop when you need balancing, wheel alignment, or other tire services.
